Methanol and hydrogen: where the shipping is heading
- Both Russian and global shipping continues developing towards the application of alternative marine furls. In Russia, a pilot run of a hydrogen-fueled passenger ship is planned for September 2023. It is to be held in the Leningrad Region.
Recently, CCS issued the first AIP certificate for the marine liquid hydrogen fuel supply system which is developed by Weishi Energy Technology Hebei Co., Ltd. It has such performance advantages as corrosion resistance and salt-alkali resistance in special environment including marine climate and high humidity.
Other types of marine fuel are being developed in the world. The tug operator Svitzer (A.P. Moller-Maersk) has launched the second phase of the company’s project to design for the world's first methanol hybrid fuel cell tug.
