Vostochny Port holds first loading of ship at its terminal’s Phase 3
Vostochny Port, operator of Russia’s largest dedicated terminal offering technologically advanced transshipment of coal (run by Port Management Company, PMC LLC) says it has held the first loading of a ship as part of Phase 3 technological equipment test under load.
The event was attended by RF Transport Minister Yevgeny Ditrikh, Primorsky Territory Governor Oleg Kozhemyako, PMC General Director Anatoly Lazarev, PMC Deputy General Director – Commercial Director Irina Olkhovskaya, Vostochny Port Managing Director Vadim Baibak and other personnel of the company.
Under the test programme, equipment on the ‘storage facility – deep-water berth – vessel’ route was deployed for loading of coal onto the MODEST SW (displacement – 76,843 tonnes) through ‘reclaimer – shiploading machine – hold’ scheme involving a system of conveyors.
Special attention was paid to environmental issues. The port management emphasized the implementation of a comprehensive environmental programme. Under this programme, Phase 3 is equipped with dust suppression systems. Total length of 20-meter high wind screens surrounding the production area (over 33,000 square meters) is about 1.7 kilometers. In 2018, Vostochny Port allocated RUB 0.9 billion for implementation of it comprehensive environmental programme. In 2019, the company is going to invest RUB 2.8 billion into environmental activities and modernization of transshipment equipment.
“Introduction of Vostochny Port’s Phase 3 will boost coal transshipment via Russian terminals and enhance competitiveness of Russia’s coal industry on the global market”, said Yevgeny Ditrikh.
“Testing under load is the paramount phase of the project. The first test loading was a success. Phase 3 project is nearing completion. Its launching will increase the terminal’s throughput to 50 million tonnes per year”, said Irina Olkhovskaya.
Vgrangel, Primorsky Territory based Vostochny Port is Russia's largest dedicated open access coal port offering technologically advanced transshipment of coal. The terminal features covered stations for unloading and transfer of coal, conveyor equipment, rotary car dumpers, shiploaders and the second-to-none system of multi-stage magnetic coal separation. The port handles coal mined and exported by Russian coal companies.
From its establishment in 1974, the company exported more than 400 million tonnes of Russian coal, handled more than 7 million railcars and loaded about 29,000 ships. Over the recent decade the terminal’s throughput has surged by 65%. During the recent 10 years Vostochny Port shipped more than 200 million tonnes of coal, which is an absolute record among all coal ports of Russia. In 2018 coal throughput at the terminal reached 24.2 million tonnes, a fifth of all coal exports from Russia's seaports and about 30% of coal transshipment in the ports of the Far Eastern Basin.
Vostochny Port is a free access terminal, open to all coal producers. The enterprise's main objective is the increase in coal throughput and the best quality of cargo handling services: ensuring an uninterrupted supply chain and loading the commodity to the most efficient types of vessels for the formation of new supply routes.
The package of environment protection measures provides for modernization and installation of hi-tech equipment for dust catching/suppression including construction of wind screens. The company’s own accredited laboratory will continue regular environment monitoring to control the atmospheric air, industrial waters and waters of Vrangel bay.
Vostochny Port is the first coal port in the Far East that obtained a certificate of compliance with ISO 14001:2015 “Environmental Management System: Requirements and Application Guide.” The certificate confirms the company’s compliance with both Russian and international requirements on environmental risk management.
Vostochny Port is implementing an ambitious investment project on construction of the coal terminal’s Phase 3 including the construction of the federal railway infrastructure. The project estimated at RUB 32 billion is being implemented through public private partnership without involving state financing. The coal will be delivered from Kuzbass, Khakassia, Yakutia and other coal fields of Russia.
