VNT organized a public discussion on the Vapour Recovery Unit project
SIA ““Ventspils nafta” termināls” (VNT) says it held a public discussion about intended changes in its B category permit for polluting activities on 20 March 2017. VNT plans to build a permanent Vapour Recovery Unit (VRU) and amend the range of transhipped products in connection with the use of the VRU.
The organised public discussion serves as an important milestone in the process of receiving required permits to proceed with the VRU project. During the meeting VNT specialists introduced the audience to the changes planned in the current operation of the terminal and updated on the progress of the VRU installation. To provide a comprehensive insight into the VRU project, VNT invited experts from PSI “Risks un audits” and SIA “Estonian Latvian Lithuanian Environment”, who presented their assessment of the air quality changes after the VRU is commissioned.
The event was attended by the representatives of the Ventspils Regional Environmental Board, Ventspils City Council, local community and media. All attendees had an opportunity to get acquainted with the latest information about the project and ask related questions. The written recommendations on the topic can be submitted to Ventspils Regional Environmental Board by 13 April 2017.
The permanent VRU is planned to be operational by 31 May 2018. By implementing the VRU project, the terminal is not only paying tribute to its commitment towards environmental protection, but also plans to assure sustainable future transhipment through the port of Ventspils, thus supporting port performance and the Latvian transit sector overall.
VNT provides transit services – receipt, storage and handling of crude oil and petroleum products that come by pipelines, rail tank cars and tankers. VNT is a technologically advanced terminal and the largest crude oil and petroleum products transhipment company in the Baltic States with a total tank capacity of 1.2 million cubic meters.
