Over 5 mln cbm of LNG delivered to Polish LNG terminal
Counting from the first delivery to the President Lech Kaczyński LNG terminal in Świnoujście in December 2015, facility has received more than 5 million cubic meters of LNG.
GAZ-SYSTEM says the discharge of another LNG carrier, that arrived at the terminal on 8th of January 2018 has been completed. The vessel, LNG carrier of Q-Flex type, brought over 200 thousand cubic meters of LNG. By far, such tankers have appeared at the shores of Świnoujście once a month, on average. In 2018 the frequency of discharges is going to be doubled. Simultaneously, the LNG terminal is under an expansion project. This venture is a part of a complex development strategy implemented by GAZ-SYSTEM Capital Group.
Following a development of an existing system of SCV’s, providing the change of the natural gas state from liquid into gas, with subsequent units, the regasification capacity of the terminal will be increased from current 5 bcm up to 7.5 bcm of natural gas on a yearly basis. Such quantity allows to fulfill almost a half of Poland’s demand for this energy resource.
Furthermore, the extension project consists of construction of another quay, which will provide other services, i.e. loading and unloading of small and medium carriers, LNG transshipment (from the vessel moored at the existing jetty), LNG loading into bunkering vessels and direct bunkering.
The Management Board of GAZ-SYSTEM put forward as well a recommendation to its subsidiary Polskie LNG concerning the commencement of design and preparatory works, ensuring reloading of LNG into ISO cryogenic containers and railroad tank cars. The planned investment includes construction of a railway siding along with the LNG reloading infrastructure , to be placed within the premises of the terminal.
It is envisaged that Świnoujście LNG terminal expansion project will be co-funded from the EU funds.
Gas Transmission Operator GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. is a strategic company for the Polish economy, responsible for the transmission of natural gas and the management of the most important gas pipelines in Poland. GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. is also the owner of Polskie LNG S.A., a company established to build the Świnoujście LNG terminal.
As part of its 2015-2025 investment scheme, GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. is planning to build over 2,000 km of new gas lines in western, southern and eastern Poland. Further expansion of the domestic transmission system, including construction of new gas pipelines being part of the North-South Gas Corridor, as well as construction of interconnections with Lithuania, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, will enhance Poland’s energy security and contribute considerably to the development of the European transmission system. In 2009-2015, GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. completed an investment plan consisting in the construction of over 1,200 km of new gas transmission lines in north-western and central Poland. The projects implemented by the company and the physical and virtual reversal on the Yamal pipeline have translated into a significant increase in technical import opportunities on routes other than from the East.
